The tip that led authorities to realize what probably happened was an interview with the Heene family Thursday night on CNN’s “Larry King Live,” (with Wolf Blitzer filling in and interviewing the Heene family) Sheriff Jim Alderden of Larimer County said Sunday.
On Sunday, Alderden called the incident a “hoax,” adding that investigators believe the evidence suggest that “it was a publicity stunt” by the Heene family in hopes of “better marketing themselves for a reality television show at some point in the future.”
The parents, Richard and Mayumi Heene, met in a Hollywood acting school and “put on a very good show for us,” Alderden said. Authorities know there was “a conspiracy” between them, he added.
He said charges are expected to be filed in the case.
But should they actually go to jail for the fraud (alleged), stirring a panic throughout rescue and news outlets and wasting unknown monetary and time resources of rescue services and police? Or was it just a couple parents trying to work out a way to support their family and it got blown out of proportion because of all the media attention?
